WSOP Michigan Launches with Joe Cada as Ambassador
The World Series of Poker launched its WSOP.com online poker site and app in the state of Michigan on Monday, March 28. It announced the impending launch approximately one week prior and did follow through as promised. This happened more than one year after Michigan launched its state-licensed igaming industry.
The WSOP also signed a partnership with former WSOP Main Event champion and Michigan native Joe Cada. He will serve as an ambassador for the Michigan poker site and app.
Ready, Set, Go
Poker players in Michigan had been waiting for more than a year for the WSOP to launch its site in the state. The first online casinos launched in January 2021, and PokerStars became the first online poker site in Michigan on January 30. It remained the only option for players until BetMGM launched on the partypoker software on March 22.
Players held out hope that the WSOP would launch its site in Michigan prior to the 2021 WSOP…but it didn’t happen. Further, the WSOP did launch its site in Pennsylvania in July and hosted official WSOP bracelet events on WSOP PA later in the year. Michigan waited.
Finally, on March 24, the WSOP confirmed to Online Poker Report that it was to launch this week. And it did so, as scheduled, on the morning of March 28.

The press release did comment on the delay. WSOP SVP Ty Stewart said, “We’re sorry it’s taken so long, but WSOP.com is ready to make up for our late entry with industry-leading promotions, the biggest weekly tournaments, and player appreciation benefits like freerolls to the Main Event in Las Vegas.”
What Players Can Expect
There are numerous promotions on the WSOP Michigan site already. Players who sign up for a new account will receive a bonus – $25 that is available immediately, just for signing up; and another $25 when the player makes an initial deposit. Players can also claim a $1K deposit match bonus.
Those who deposit anything into a new account before April 18 will win a seat into a $50K Depositors Freeroll on April 19. But for every first-time deposit in that time period, the WSOP will add another $100 to the prize pool up to $100K.
The biggest set of guaranteed tournaments on the schedule will be Six-Figure Sundays:
-4pm: $55 buy-in $25,000 Guarantee
-5pm: $215 buy-in $30,000 Guarantee
-6pm: $100 buy-in $50,000 Guarantee
Players can also take part in World Series of Poker satellites. They start at just $1 to win seats into the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas this summer.
So far, there are no WSOP Online bracelet-awarding events set for Michigan players, but that may change. There are several on the calendar for players in Nevada and New Jersey, as well as Pennsylvania. It would be logical to add one or more for Michigan.
Interestingly, WSOP in Michigan is partnered with Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel. However, that casino closed its poker room on March 31, 2019 due to “overhead and spacing issues.” This means there is no land-based property that will host WSOP-related events.
On the plus side, the WSOP said that it will offer the first WSOP Circuit Online series for Michigan players from April 20 to May 1. It will consist of 12 WSOP gold ring events with a schedule to be released soon.
As mentioned, 2009 WSOP Main Event champion Joe Cada is the WSOP Ambassador for the Michigan market. He has been counting the days to the site’s launch. “It’s go time in Michigan,” Cada said on March 28. “I know that a lot of local players are excited that WSOP.com is finally live in the state and I’m personally looking forward to getting to know all of the great poker players at tournaments and online events soon. Game on!”
I don’t know if I’m more excited for the WSOP this summer or WSOP Michigan. Fingers crossed that Michigan links up with other states by the end of the year 🤞! I’ve been waiting for this! https://t.co/bX90yMGhIM
