Day 50 Brings High Rollers to 2021 WSOP
In most years past, the end of the Main Event signaled the end of the entire World Series of Poker. This year, that is not the case. The Main Event ended with a new champion figuring out what to do with his $8M and a massive (and expensive) bracelet. But more than a dozen more tournaments remain on the schedule to find their winners.
From the 88-event schedule, new live tournaments will start as late as next Monday, November 22. And Events 87 and 88 will play down to their winners on November 23.
Then, the World Series of Poker will pack up their equipment, prepare it for a move to Bally’s and Paris over on the Las Vegas Strip, and say goodbye to the Rio.
Meanwhile, we’re still watching the 2021 WSOP for the last winners. No one won a bracelet yesterday, but there are several up for grabs today.
Event 78: $10K Razz Championship
Day 3 should’ve been the finale of this tournament. Only 13 players started that day. Matt Vengrin, Shirley Rosario, and Roland Israelashvili were among the first to exit. Phil Hellmuth departed in eighth place, followed by Erik Seidel in seventh and John Monnette in fifth. Benny Glaser was in control from that point forward, and he looked strong when head-sup play began against Everett Carlton. Play had gone on so long, though, that they decided to call it a night and play it out on Friday.

Event 79: $1,979 NLHE Poker Hall of Fame Bounty
This was supposed to be a two-day tournament. Day 2 brought 63 players in to play it down to a winner, but they didn’t get that far. Maria Lampropulos busted in 17th place for $5,805, Michael Gathy followed in 16th for the same payout, and play moved forward. Dylan Wilkerson left in eighth place with $16,074, and Ronald Sullivan took $20,985 for seventh place. The late hour then prompted the tournament director to call it a night with six players returning on Friday.

Event 80: $3K PLO 6-Handed
Omaha players turned out in droves, as nearly 500 entries put the prize pool past $1.3M. Day 2 thinned the field into and through the initial payouts, with only 24 surviving to play for at least $10,692. Some big names remain, including Ray Henson and Chino Rheem, as well as former bracelet winners like David Williams and Mike Matusow.

Event 81: $800 NLHE Deepstack
The 2021 WSOP may be winding down, but there’s always room for another fast-paced deepstacked hold’em tournament. That opportunity brought in more than 1900 entries on the first day, and they thinned that field dramatically on the first day, bringing the top 289 players into the money and ending the night with just 121 bagging their chips. Will Givens sits atop the leaderboard for the final day of play, but players like Jason Wheeler, Ramon Colillas, and Ping Liu remain near the top and will try to move up. This tournament should declare a winner on Friday.

Event 82: $250K NLHE Super High Roller
This wasn’t just any high-stakes tournament. This required a $250K buy-in and brought an elite group of players to the tables. In fact, only 25 entries showed up on the board for the day, and only 15 players made it through the day. It is unclear how many players signed up versus reentries, but this information is typically not provided.
Michael Addamo, who already won a bracelet this year, took the chip lead into Day 2, but fellow high roller Ali Imsirovic was close behind. Adrian Mateos is fourth in chips and looking for his fourth WSOP bracelet, with Daniel Negreanu seeking his seventh and Justin Bonomo his fourth. Big names and big action, as well as late registration, await on Day 2.
