WSOP 2022 Day 43: Main Event Down to 35 Players
These last weeks and days of the 2022 World Series of Poker are tense.
The Main Event is working slowly but steadily to reach a final table. Fan favorites bust out, new stories emerge from remaining players, and the coverage loops everyone into the action.
Meanwhile, players not in the Main Event are figuring things out. There are more tournaments happening, so many players are registering and playing those events. Some players are just packing it up to go home. Those on vacation are playing their last cash games and returning to their “normal” lives. Leaving summer camp comes with all kinds of feelings.
For those still watching, let’s see what happened yesterday on the felt.
Event 70: $10K NLHE Main Event
Nearly 130 players started Day 6 of the Main Event, but some of them had to go. Dan Smith left in 121st place for $62,500. Zilong Zhang busted in 117th place for the same. One of the two women in the field, Shelby Wells, busted in 97th place for $73,100. Michael Rocco left, as did Rok Gostisa, and Andrew Yeh.
Defending champion Koray Aldemir departed in 75th place for $101,700. Eddy Sabat bowed out in 59th for $145,800. PokerStars Ambassador Alejandro “PapaMC” Lococo took off in 39th place for $214,200. And Nathanael Kogel’s 36th place bustout for $214,200 was the last of the night.
The 35 remaining players carefully bagged their chips and will return on Wednesday to play again.

Basel Chaura led at that point, with Mike Allis and Ryan Riess following. Short-stacked Boris Akopov was the first to bust, setting the official table of nine. Play continued as Allis busted Niklas Warlich in ninth and Mohammed Jaafar took out Rio Fujita in eighth. After Andrew Robinson exited in seventh, Chura took out Salah Nimer and Leonardo De Souza.
