World College Poker Partners with PokerStars for Champs
The overall goal of World College Poker is to bring more players into the game. The group does that with free-play poker games, which means anyone 18 and over can play. Further, World College Poker equips players with the tools to become a better player. They recommend the top training sites as well as free educational sites, along with organizations like Poker Powher that demonstrate the way poker skills relate to the larger business world.
This online community of players gathers from miles apart to play. And this enables World College Poker to pursue its mission of creating a fun poker experience and a launching pad to hone their poker skills, as well as to, hopefully, take a place in poker history.
And as the passionate group prepares for its 2021 World College Poker Championship Main Event this summer, PokerStars jumped aboard with its dot-net site. This will be the platform for the action.
PokerStars Knows How to Host a Championship
For more than two decades, PokerStars has been in the business of online poker. From its world-famous World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) to SCOOP and numerous other online poker tournament series, PokerStars has more than shown its ability to host a proper series.
This week, World College Poker (WCP) announced an exclusive partnership with PokerStars-dot-net. The world’s largest online poker site will sponsor and host the free-play 2021 World College Poker Championship Main Event that kicks off on July 24.

While this isn’t the first championship event for WCP, it is the first time it will be open to a global player pool. The only countries specifically on the prohibited list are Spain, Italy, and Portugal, as well as the American states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. College students in the rest of the world are welcome to play.
Players must be 18 or older to play and must be prepared to show a valid, current student identification card for a college, university, or vocational school anywhere in the world.
There is no buy-in, as everything is free to play, so there is no cash prize pool. However, there is a prestigious title on the line, as well as a trophy and numerous prizes for the top finishers.

PokerStars in Good Company
PokerStars is certainly not the only sponsor of the games. Many companies and interested parties also stepped up to become corporate sponsors and enable the championship to happen.
Poker-related companies include Solve for Why Academy, PLO Quick Pro, Jonathan Little’s Poker Coaching, Faded Spade, and RunGoodGear. Phil Hellmuth’s Breinfuel energy drink company jumped in, as did poker-loving businessman Bill Perkins. And media sponsors include CardPlayer Magazine and D&B Publishing.
Championship Schedule
Registration is now open on the World College Poker website. Players must be registered as a player on PokerStars (either dot-com or dot-net, which use the same logins) to sign up for the WCP action. And registration is only open until June 22.
For simply entering, every person will receive a $100 hotel savings gift card from PLO Quick Pro.
The schedule for poker action is as follows:
–July 24, Round 1: Players compete in pre-set regions of the world. When regions whittle the field to 50 players each, they stop play. Those 50 players in each region qualify to play in the second round.
–July 31, Round 2: Those 300 qualifiers play online, and the top 45 finishers qualify to move forward. They will play the third round with the chip stacks at the end of Round 2 play.
–August 7, Round 3: The returning 45 players compete for the six spots at the final table.
The final table will depend upon the Covid situation at that point in the summer. The hope is to gather those six players together to play the final table live. If the coronavirus makes that difficult or impossible, they can play it online.
The winner will become the 2021 World College Poker Main Event Champion.
