Triton and PokerGO Have High Hopes for Cyprus
The Triton Poker Series cannot seem to catch a break. All they want to do is host high-stakes poker tournaments in various locations around the world.
The last time the tour hosted a series was in August 2019 in London. They then set the 2020 season to include South Korea (Jeju) in February, Montenegro (Budva) in May, and England (London) in August. But as Covid-19 spread around Asia as early as January, Triton took the public health emergency declaration seriously and cancelled the South Korea series. They eventually had to cancel the Montenegro and England series as well.
In December 2021, it seemed fairly safe to plan tournaments for 2022. So, they put 11 tournaments on the calendar for February 17 through March 1 in Bali, Indonesia. They also set it up to have one of their signature charitable components. By January 5, however, they had to postpone it. A new Covid-19 variant was making its way across the globe. They just knew that players wouldn’t be able to make it to Bali.
Rescheduling the 1st event will enable us to provide the experience that our players, partners, and team members expect and deserve in a safe environment. We are exploring options to reschedule the event and are working to provide a new experience as soon as possible.

A few days later, they tried it again, this time scheduling the Triton Poker Sochi Special Edition. They partnered with the PokerGO Super High Roller Bowl to offer a series of events at Casino Sochi in Russia March 1-6. What could go wrong?
PokerGO and Triton Cancel Russia
At the beginning of February, they had to do it again. Triton and PokerGO announced the postponement of the Sochi series.
PokerGO noted that it was due to several factors: health concerns, safety concerns, and increased difficulty regarding international travel. Triton blamed it solely on Covid-related issues. The reality is that Covid-19 concerns are still affecting travel in many parts of the world. Some restrictions make travel frustrating if not impossible. But there is also great potential for physical conflict in the region, as Russia shows increasingly concerning aggression toward Ukraine.

It’s just probably not a great time to take cases of cash into Russia to play some casual games of high-stakes poker. Just a guess.
Cyprus in April?
No one can say that Triton isn’t determined to host a series this year. They are planning the Triton Poker Cyprus Special Edition for April 2-15 at the Merit Royal Hotel Casino & Spa in North Cyprus. And one of the tournaments will be PokerGO’s Super High Roller Series Europe.
Confidence in the Cyprus action comes from relaxed Covid mandates. That government lifted all travel restrictions and quarantine requirements. Players should check with their airline and on the Cyprus government’s website regarding vaccine and testing rules.
PokerGO hosted a SHRB Europe series at this location last year, and it did very well. The only difference this year is that Triton will be a part of the action.
The schedule will be for the upcoming series will be:
Triton Cyprus | ||
April 2 at 1pm | Event 1 | $50K No Limit Hold’em |
April 3 at 4pm | Event 2 | $100K No Limit Hold’em |

Note that Event 4 of the Triton Cyprus part of the series is missing. And the Super High Roller Bowl is in the middle of the Super High Roller Series without an event number because, well, it doesn’t need one.
