March Revenue Shows US iGaming Hitting Highs
After a somewhat rocky start to the year, online poker revenue increased in March. The overall internet gaming market, however, has had a better year thus far and improved on that in March.
The bottom line – as always – is that online poker revenue will only grow substantially when more states link their sites through the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement. That is finally moving forward, at least with one state, as Michigan just signed that agreement with Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey earlier this month. None of the poker operators with the approval to link their sites has provided any timeline for doing so, but most expect it to happen within the next month or two.
Meanwhile, online slots and casino games continue to carry the igaming industry in the United States. They set new records in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey.
Let’s take a quick look at the state-by-state breakdowns, in alphabetical order.
Connecticut: March 2022
The state of Connecticut legalized state-regulated online poker in May 2021. There has yet to be a single online poker operator announce a partnership with a land-based casino in this state.
Delaware: March 2022
Rebounding from a bad February, Delaware’s igaming market rebounded in March. Online poker revenue increased nearly 12%, and the totality of internet gaming jumped nearly 19%. This is a chance to move revenue back in the right direction in the coming months.
Delaware | Only iPoker | Total iGaming | Monthly iPoker | Yearly iPoker | Monthly iGaming | Yearly iGaming |
Jan-22 | $41,468 | $1,121,345 | (-3.72%) | 4.63% | 3.10% | 51.84% |
Feb-22 | $32,281 | $843,247 | (-22.16%) | (-17.64%) | (-24.80%) | 12.24% |
Mar-22 | $36,051 | $1,002,072 | 11.68% | (-1.80%) | 18.83% | 11.62% |
The number of new online account registrations finally started its upward movement again. The 886 new registrations in March constituted a 5.5% increase monthly and 21% year-on-year.
Michigan: March 2022
The Michigan Gaming Control Board does not separate online poker revenue from the rest of the igaming sector. For this reason, we have had – and continue not to have – any idea of the performance of the poker market.
As for igaming on the whole, that overall number continues to climb. The growth has been fairly consistent since June 2021, with only minor setbacks. In March, it accumulated $131,673,653 in gross receipts – a new record – and generated more than $23.8M in state taxes and payments to Michigan. The monthly revenue growth for the sector was 7.2% for total gross receipts and 38.5% from the previous year.
Nevada: March 2022
Same story, new month. There is still only one online poker site regulated by the state of Nevada. Therefore, Nevada does not report its online poker revenue, so the WSOP does not reveal numbers to the public.
New Jersey: March 2022
March was a very good month for New Jersey. The entire gambling market jumped 13.5% for the month and nearly 18% for the year.
In rare news, the online poker market in New Jersey increased revenue 13.6% from February to March. While the number was still down on the year, monthly growth is a positive. All of igaming rose, too, but that is nothing new.
New Jersey | Only iPoker | Total iGaming | Monthly iPoker | Yearly iPoker | Monthly iGaming | Yearly iGaming |
Jan-22 | $2,557,789 | $137,849,716 | 9.41% | (-6.80%) | 3.48% | 32.84% |

Pennsylvania: March 2022
Revenue for Pennsylvania was up in every vertical of the state’s gambling market except fantasy contests. The entire industry rose 23.2% in March, and it came to nearly 15% of an increase year-on-year. In fact, the $462,740,098 in revenue was an all-time high for Pennsylvania.
Poker had a tough month in February but rebounded nicely in March to show a monthly and yearly increase. And, of course, internet gaming soared as it is wont to do. And its $118M of revenue set a new record as well, the first time that revenue stream eclipsed $110M.
Pennsylvania | Only iPoker | Total iGaming | Monthly iPoker | Yearly iPoker | Monthly iGaming | Yearly iGaming |

West Virginia: March 2022
The state of West Virginia legalized state-regulated online poker in March 2019. There has yet to be a single online poker operator announce a partnership with a land-based casino in this state…three years later.
