GPI Opens Fan Voting for 2020 Awards Semifinalists
The process of narrowing the finalists for the Second Annual Global Poker Awards is moving forward at a solid pace. With the awards ceremony set for March 6, 2020, everything seems to be on pace.
Before the ceremony takes place at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA in Las Vegas, however, the poker public must be included in the voting process. That voting was revised for this year’s awards and was developed to offer the fairest method by which people play a significant role in picking the finalists for many of the categories.

Revised Voting Process
The new Global Poker Awards voting procedures with still put big decisions in the hands of private voting panels, but the public also has a fair amount of say in the decision making. In addition, the juries are being categorized to put more experts in the various categories, and panel members will be revealed after the awards ceremony to provide full transparency.
As a reminder of the new voting process…
–1. Voting panels were vetted and chosen for each category.
–2. The GPI team and voting panels developed lists of candidates and vetted them.
–3. Panel members will each select five candidates from the lists for the official ballot.
–4. At least eight candidates in each category with the most votes are placed on the ballot.
–5. Fans vote in eligible categories, and panel members rank top three candidates in each category.
–6. The GPI team will tabulate the scores and reveal the final four nominees in each category.
The fifth step is already underway, as fans can vote on a number of categories to help choose the final four nominees.
