Addamo Wins Latest Super High Roller Bowl
Just before the 2021 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, poker players had the chance to put their skills to practice at the Aria. Those players, though, had to have quite the substantial bankrolls, though. The Super High Roller Bowl is not for the faint of heart or bank account. The buy-in was $300,000.
It was scheduled to play at the PokerGO Studio at Aria on the Las Vegas Strip September 27-29.
There have been other SHRB iterations. Most recently, the SHRB Europe played out in Cyprus. It offered a schedule of tournaments with buy-ins ranging form $25K to $250K, the latter being the cost of playing the SHRB Europe Main Event. It brought in 32 players plus nine reentries, creating a prize pool of $10.25M. The top six players received at least $512,500 for their work, but it was Wiktor Malinowski of Poland who won it for $3.69M.
The last time a SHRB took place in Las Vegas was…well…before the pandemic. Last year’s event happened online at partypoker, and it turned into a series of 28 tournaments. The finale had a $100K buy-in, much cheaper than the usual Vegas SHR Bowl. It brought in 50 entries and a $5M prize pool. And in the end, Justin Bonomo won it for $1,775,000.
Interestingly, Michael Addamo took second in that SHRB Online for $1,187,500.
This year, he did one better.
Maneuvering into the Money
High-stakes players entered the Aria with their $300K on Monday, September 27. It was a quaint field, as 19 players got involved on that first day to create a $5.7M prize pool. However, the entry and reentry period remained open until the start of Day 2.

Only 10 players made it through to Day 2, and Alex Foxen took the chip lead of 896K chips into that second day. Michael Addamo wasn’t far behind with 822K, followed by Justin Bonomo with 809K.
Two more players got in on the action to start Day 2. The final numbers were:
-Total entries: 21
-Total prize pool: $6.3M
-Total paid players: 3
As Day 2 played on, the field thinned to combine to just one table. David Peters had busted in 10th place, and Foxen dominated with a significant chip lead, followed in the distance by Seth Davies, Bonomo, and Addamo. Bryn Kenney busted in ninth place, followed by Sam Soverel, Seth Davies, and then Bill Klein.
Play stopped with Addamo holding 2.9M chips and the lead. Bonomo wasn’t even at half that number with 1.11M, and Sean Winter was nearby with 1.07M. Foxen was down to 840K, and Chris Brewer was on the shortest stack of 380K.
Only Three Players Paid
The first casualty of the final day was Foxen, who departed in fifth place with nothing, courtesy of Bonomo. And soon after, it was Bonomo who challenged Winter. Bonomo rivered a flush to boot Brewer out in fourth place on the money bubble.
The final three players were guaranteed to walk away with at least $1,008,000. Addamo led the trio, and Winter held on to his short stack…but not for long. When Winter pushed for 815K chips with pocket tens, Addamo called with A-J suited. The board turned Broadway for Addamo, and the river made it official that Winter was to finish in third place.
Heads-up play started with Addamo holding 3.67M chips to the 2.63M of Bonomo. Without much delay, Addamo put his opponent to a decision on a 4-3-2-Q-10 board with three diamonds. Bonomo gave it some thought and did call all-in with Q-10 of spades, but Addamo showed 7-2 of diamonds for the win.
-1st place: Michael Addamo (Australia) $3,402,000
-2nd place: Justin Bonomo (USA) $1,890,000
-3rd place: Sean Winter (USA) $1,008,000
