Americas Cardroom Seeks Next Moneymaker This Spring
This year is going to be special for Chris Moneymaker, as well as for poker fans around the world. It’s going to take all of them – Chris included – on a trip down memory lane.
Twenty years ago, at the 2003 World Series of Poker, a young accountant from Tennessee took his shot. He took a seat in the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas – that he had won online through an $86 satellite at PokerStars – and turned that $10K seat into $2.5M. It’s the story of Moneymaker, it’s the story of quite a few players in poker, and it’s the story that every aspiring poker player wants to tell about themselves.
Twenty years later, Moneymaker has proven to be a good poker player but, more importantly, an incredible ambassador of the game.
Now serving as an ambassador for Americas Cardroom on the Winning Poker Network, Moneymaker wants to celebrate his 20th anniversary by giving someone the chance to follow in his footsteps. And this opportunity presented by ACR and Moneymaker is one of the most lucrative, most ambitious that they’ve ever done. It’s worth more than $100K – and the chance to turn that into more – for the winner.
Next Moneymaker 2.0
The name of the promotion is self-explanatory. It gives someone the chance to be the next Moneymaker. While no one could be Chris, it’s the opportunity for someone else to walk in his footsteps and create their own dream story.
Next Moneymaker 2.0 puts $1M on the line, half of which will go to weekly leaderboard competitions March 11 to May 28. The other half will go to players in the finale June 4-5. And the ultimate winner will receive $100K for WSOP buy-ins and a $15K package for the WSOP Main Event.
The leaderboard competitions will run every Saturday at 1:30pm ET, weekly starting March 11 and ending with the last one on May 27. The final one will play on at 1:30pm ET on Sunday, May 28. Players in each leaderboard tournament will earn points based on their finishes, with the top 24 in each earning significant points as follows:
1st place: 15,000 points
2nd place: 10,000
3rd place: 7,500
4th place: 6,000
5th place: 4,500
6th place: 3,500
7th place: 2,500
8th place: 2,000
9th – 16th places: 1,500
17th – 24th places: 1,000
In addition, players who participate in every single one of the 13 tournaments will win an extra 10K points.
Each leaderboard competition will have a buy-in of $86, reflecting the price of the online satellite Moneymaker played to win his way to the WSOP. There will be numerous qualifiers running for less than $26 as well.
Big June Finale
By June 4, the 2023 World Series of Poker will be underway in Las Vegas. With that as a backdrop the Moneymaker 2.0 competition will play out on Sunday, June 4, and it will conclude on Monday, June 5.
As mentioned, players in the initial leaderboard tournaments will accumulate points as they play each or any week. Their points will then translate into chips, with one point equaling one chip. The points total will translate into the total number of starting chips for that player in the finale.
There will be cash prizes for the top finishers in the finale, but the ultimate winner will receive a prize package worth $115K.
The base of the package is a $15K trip to Las Vegas to play in the WSOP Main Event this year. That will cover the $10K buy-in, not-yet-announced entry fee, airfare and hotel accommodations, and other expenses.
The rest of the package – $100K – is meant for WSOP buy-ins so the player can experience more of the World Series. However, the player will be able to use the cash “as you see fit.” The terms and conditions of the entire promotion are not yet available (but will be published prior to the start of the leaderboard tournaments).
